What is FWSU?
FWSU is comprised of three member school districts and serves Bellows Free Academy Fairfax (PreK-12), Georgia Elementary Middle School (PreK-8), and Fletcher Elementary School (PreK-6). Each member district is governed by local school boards and appoints its representatives to the FWSU Board. Located in beautiful Franklin County, Vermont, FWSU is pleased to serve the communities of Fairfax, Fletcher, and Georgia by providing high-quality public education for nearly 1,811 students.
FWSU Action Plan
Our Action Plan calls for a dramatic departure from the manner in which school has been provided for students over the last one hundred years. It examines flexible learning environments by redefining the school day, promotes learning experiences that extend beyond the school classroom, and fosters creativity, innovation, and differentiated learning opportunities for all. FWSU is fully immersed in its journey to make schools a destination where students embrace the “always on” learning styles of 21st Century and are engaged in answering authentic questions and solving problems in collaborative settings. The plan identifies the following four targets:
PROFICIENCY-BASED PERSONALIZED LEARNING
FWSU students and staff design and engage in proficiency-based personalized learning that integrates collaborative inquiry, problem-solving, and creativity.
LEADERSHIP
FWSU students and staff lead innovative, personalized learning opportunities, both locally and globally.
FLEXIBLE LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS
FWSU maximizes flexible learning environments by redefining the school day, promoting learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom and fostering creativity, innovation, and personalized learning opportunities for all.
ENGAGED COMMUNITY PARTNERS
FWSU staff and students engage in authentic learning opportunities with local, regional, state, and global partners to make a difference in their community, state, and world.
