GEMS

We are excited to share details on the administrative structure for Georgia Elementary and Middle School for the 2026-27 school year.

As you are aware, Principal Steve Emery has announced his retirement after 33 years in the Georgia School District. Additionally, Director of Teaching and Learning, Dr. Karen Lehning, will be moving to FWSU Central Office as the Coordinator of Academic Systems and Assessments. Their leadership will be greatly missed. With this change, we have the opportunity to reexamine the structure of the administrative team to ensure that we continue to meet student needs.

Melissa Fisher will become Co-Principal of GEMS on July 1, 2026.  Mrs. Fisher has worked at GEMS for 26 years. She served as school counselor before taking on her current role as Dean of Students four years ago. Melissa’s background, experience, and commitment to the Georgia community put her in a prime position to lead the school as it strives toward continuous growth, both academically and socially, for its learners.

Joining her as Co-Principal will be Lewis Webber. Mr. Webber was selected through a nationwide search by a committee that included elementary and middle school teachers, support staff, and administrators. The team was impressed by his experience across elementary and middle school classrooms in all subject areas and as a P.E. teacher. They keyed in on his ability to connect with students, collaborate with colleagues, and lead change in his schools. Although we initially interviewed Mr. Webber for an Assistant Principal position, we are certain that he is qualified and capable of leading GEMS in partnership with Mrs. Fisher.  Mr. Webber enthusiastically agreed to take on the additional responsibility and the opportunity to have a wider influence and connection with students, staff, and the community. He is currently employed at Rocky Mountain Classical Academy in Colorado Springs and is moving to Vermont to be closer to his family. Mr. Webber will begin at GEMS on July 1st.

Corrina Favreau will continue to be a part of the Administrative Team in her role as office manager and communications director. Her insight and experience are invaluable to the functioning of the team and the school.

Change is exciting, and can also be a little nerve-racking. We are fully confident that this team will be able to handle any situation that may arise with the support of their staff, Central Office and the community. Your new administrative team will be in touch with you throughout the summer and will be available to answer your questions, as well.

Thank you for your continued support of our school.
