GEMS Students Create Fuzzy Fleece Blankets for Local Kitty Rescue, “A Place for Grace”

As part of our focus on supporting students, GEMS grades 5-8 start the day with their advisories.  Each advisory has its own activities but the goal in grades 7 and 8 is to provide students with a consistent small group to form connections with.  We also discuss character traits of the month.  So far our character traits have been respect, responsibility, citizenship and generosity.

One definition of generosity is “giving without expecting anything in return.”  As part of our December character trait, generosity, Mrs. Mathieu’s advisory spent much of the month measuring, cutting, and knotting fleece blankets.  We completed ten fuzzy fleece blankets to donate to a local animal rescue organization. This kitty rescue organization is called “A Place for Grace.” Their next cat adoption event will be held on January 14 at Guys Farm and Yard in St. Albans.

Our picture was taken on ‘Comfy Clothes’ day of spirit week before winter break.  Mrs. Mathieu appreciates the hard work of these students and is excited to think the blankets will come in useful for the cat adoption event.

May your days be filled with generosity, hard work, and kindness!
